Resetting a Flashing Tire Pressure Light

Is your vehicle’s TPMS light on even though the tires are properly inflated? If so, there are a few ways to go about resetting it:

  • Try driving at or above 50 mph for at least ten minutes. Doing this may cause the TPMS sensor to reset itself the next time you start your car.
  • You can also try the tire pressure reset button, which you can unusually find beneath the steering wheel. With the vehicle off, turn the key to the “On” position but don’t start the car. Next, hold the TPMS button until the tire pressure light blinks three times. Then, release the button and wait for 20 minutes. In many cases, this will work to reset a flashing tire pressure light. Check your owner’s manual if you have trouble finding the TPMS button!
  • Another method involves inflating all four tires to 3 psi above the recommended level, and then deflating them all completely. Remember to deflate the spare tire as well, because it may also have a sensor. Now, reinflate all tires to the recommended pressure.
  • If all else fails, try turning the car off and disconnecting the positive battery terminal. Then start the car and honk the horn for about three seconds to discharge any power being stored Lee’s Summit Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram the vehicle. Reconnect the battery and see if the TPMS light is still on. If it is, you should reach out to your local Blue Springs service center for their tips on how to reset a tire pressure light.
